About those two travellers…… What is the story?

To start, Carol is Portuguese and Locky is Australian. Long story short, they met in 2018 New Year’s Eve in the Island of Koh Rong Samloem in Cambodia and at a time they were both living and working in the country. Seems to have been a movie like afternoon with golden sunset, warm beach waters and glowing plankton, but we will never really know the truth of how it happened I am afraid.

They started their journey together half a year later driving up the East Coast of Australia. Being a traveller, an adventurer, was something pretty special that allow them to get to know first hand the world around them. After a trip to Marocco, Carol packed her bags and moved all her life across the globe to Australia to live as a backpacker. This was in late 2019 and soon after the world and all international travellers are requested to settle for a while. During those times, they remember having a lot of weekend get away trips, road tips and camping trips. These lasted two years. One could say they got to know North Queensland, Northern Territory and Tasmania like pros. Yes, one could say that!

In the beginning of 2022, after 2.5 years away from Portugal, Carol packed her bags again. It was time to visit Portugal and once more return to Europe. Lochy joined her shortly after she left. They soon enough initiated a year-long of adventures they have been dreaming about for a while starting in Portugal, then moving onto Central and South America and, finally, Scotland Highlands, Mediterranean Islands and East Europe.

It was a blast! They were in Mexico when they finally came up with the idea for the name of the blog and the creation process finally started. The EarthBound Club was born!

Now they have tons and tons of information, itineraries, google maps pins, personal journals, photographs to process!

Here, they told us, they are building a platform of their dreams to share their knowledge from all the places they have travelled and lived in!

Come and join the Club and wish them good luck!

Hi! I am Carol!

I am the oldest of three sisters and the first of my generation in my family. I have very deep roots in Portugal, the country I call home.

I am an Environmental Engineer, a Biologist and travel writer and I believe having just one job in life is boring, so I am keen to continue growing the list of things I identify myself with.

I was a late bloomer in solo travelling. I only started my world discovering adventures on my own in my mid 20s after finishing my degrees and with pocket money I saved along the years.

I am very proud of my first solo journey which was a dream trip I had planned for a long, long time – a two-and-a-half-month trip in Southeast Asia. I was both terrified and excited and I can say now that that solo trip was the best decision ever and THE turning point in my lifechanged everything! Since then, I lived in Asia and in Australia and I have visited many wonderful places in each continent that had landscapes that I could not even think possible.

In this blog, I hope to give you a glimpse of my voyages, pass the knowledge and the torch so you too can make your dream trips come true!

Hey, I’m Locky

You’ll find me exploring a local restaurant, trail or museum when on the road.  I’m a big fan of slow travel and try to spend at least a week in each location if I can.

I grew up in few different cities around Australia, before completing university on the Gold Coast, I decided to move to a remote town in Iceland (Isafjordur) to do a masters degree. I lived there more that two years and, even though there were months I didn’t see the sun, I loved living there! I would most definitely repeat the experience again. (If you can visit Iceland, please do!)

My top travel tips are:  1. learn a few words of the local language, 2. travel slow (aim for a week in each destination) and 3. try as much new food as you can. And just have fun on the way!
